Family Portraits- Can be fun! Helpful post one of three {Southern Minnesota Family Photographer}

I recently put out there wondering what YOU guys wanted to know. My one and only comment (thanks guys! jk!) was about family sessions. I will be honest, I have wanted to post something about family sessions and things to expect and how to plan. So, this is perfect!

Family session season is just around the corner. Yes, hard to believe with all the snow we got this week and the possibility again this weekend (I am seriously over it). But, I have been booking sessions for my Michigan trip, and thinking about my availability this year (I will post at the end my available times for families).

I can not tell you how many times I have heard people complain how it is “just too much work to coordinate outfits” for family photos. Honestly, it isn’t that bad. You don’t have to stress.

I am here!

First of all, please, please do not all wear the same shirt. The days of matching white t-shirts and jeans has passed. Let’s just leave it where it is.

I usually tell my extended families to choose one color. As long as each member has that color somewhere in their outfit, it will work.

I love how this family coordinated their fall family portraits. The men wore grey or blue , and the women wore burgundy. It was amazing!

Do not be afraid to mix patterns. Have different textures. It will work. Trust me.

I have dedicated a Pinterest board to help with outfit choosing. Click here to see it and make some plans!

Please do not fear the family portrait. My nephew who only loves Under Amor and track pants, was able to find a nice outfit for their family portraits. If he can, anyone can! 😉

My next post will be about questions to ask your photographer and timing of your session. Make sure to check back next week!

A quick note about availability:

I will be gone for one week in June (the 6th-13) and two weeks in July (13-27). If you want summer portraits (seniors too) please contact me ASAP and get your session in the books.

Fall is going to be CRAZY this year! I have three weddings in September and two in October. Because of this, I will be booking very few family and senior sessions to help with the chaos. Please contact me soon for fall dates.

Looking forward to working with you!!!
